Getting started with Hootus

Hootus is the owl that runs the guild's Discord: verifying members, posting raids, herding people into voice, tracking loot, and keeping the roster tidy. Here's the whole set of guides, grouped by what you're trying to do.

How commands work: anything written like /verify is a Discord slash command. Click the message box in any channel, type the /, pick the command from the menu that pops up, and fill in the boxes Discord shows you. You don't type the whole thing by hand.

New to the guild? Start here

Most members only need these four.

1. Getting verified: link your character and get your roles. Do this first.
2. Your characters and gear: add alts, set your main, check your gear.
3. Finding a group with LFG: round up people for dungeons and heroics.
4. Soft reserves: call dibs on the drops you want before a raid.

Running raids

For raid leads and officers.

1. Running a raid, start to finish: create it, lock it, pull everyone into voice, finish up.
2. Moving people in the planner: shape the roster and post the lineup.
3. PUGs, recruiting, and loot: invites, applications, and loot.
4. When verification goes wrong: the member stuck as a guest, held in review, or missing roles.

Setting up and configuring Hootus

For admins. Work through these in order after the setup wizard, and wire your channels before switching on features that depend on them.

1. Setting up Hootus: get the bot onto a fresh server.
2. Roles, permissions, and features: who can do what, which roles the bot hands out, which features are on.
3. Channels and notifications: wire duties to channels and route every notice.
4. Verification and member messages: how members get verified, plus welcome and bot copy.
5. Raid automation and groups: reminders, auto-lock, approvals, and LFM defaults.
6. Recruitment and applications: open recruitment and build the apply form.
7. Roster, members, and promotions: inactivity, sync, and rank promotions.
8. Server basics: timezone and resets, addons, and bot health.
