Your main gets set when you verify. Everything after that, alts, specs, gear, runs through /character and /gear. Prefer a mouse? The My Characters page on the web does the same things.
1. Add an alt
Run /character add with the character name.
- On the guild roster? Just the name is enough.
Hootus pulls class, level, race, spec, and realm from the roster. - Not on the roster? The
/character addform has extra fields. Fill in the realm option and Hootus looks the character up live on the armory. If the armory can't find it, pick a class from the form instead.
Hootus also gives you the matching class role. A character already claimed by someone else can't be added.
2. Import them all at once
Typing your seventh alt's name is a chore, so there is a shortcut. /character link gives you a button to connect Battle.net, and Hootus imports every character on the account in one go, including brand new ones the armory cannot see yet.
Characters that arrive that way are marked verified. Ones you typed by hand stay claimed. Verified only means the character came out of a Battle.net account you signed into: it is not a rank, not a permission, and not proof anyone is any good.
The connection is read-only, no access token is kept, and disconnecting is one click on the same page. Your characters and their settings survive a disconnect and simply drop to previously verified.
3. See your roster
/character list shows your main up top and every alt below, with class, spec, level, and race. Add a user to see someone else's. Hit Share to post it to the channel.
Want the full picture on one character? /character info gives class, level, race, guild rank, raider status, and alts. /character lookup <name> <realm> checks any character on the armory, guild or not.
4. Set your main
/character setmain <name> swaps your main to any of your characters or anyone on the roster. Hootus also renames your Discord nickname to match.
To drop an alt, run /character remove <name>. You can't remove your main. Set a new main first.
5. Fix your spec or role
Hootus reads your spec from the armory, but you can override it.
/character setspec <spec>sets your active talent spec. Pick the Clear option to drop the override and go back to the API-detected spec./character setrole <tank|healer|dps>pins your raid role. Pick Clear to auto-detect from your spec.
Both default to your main. Add a character to target an alt instead. Hootus checks your class can actually fill the role before it sticks.
6. Check and sync your gear
/gear pulls your main's equipment straight from the armory: every slot, your overall item level, and an audit that flags missing enchants, empty gem sockets, and empty slots, plus a stat block tuned to your role. Add a character to check an alt or anyone on the roster. Hit Share to post it to the channel.
Gear is fetched fresh each time, and Hootus tells you which of three things went wrong rather than guessing. Blizzard only publishes equipment after a character logs out, so a character mid-session shows its last logout. If the armory cannot be reached at all, that is Blizzard's end and waiting fixes it. If the name is genuinely not there, Hootus says so and names the realm it searched. On the web, the My Characters page has a Sync all button that refreshes everything in one go.
