He Only Ever Looked In Europe

A guild on Moon Guard installed Hootus, and the person applying was shown a blank box where their characters should be. They had thirty-nine on file. He had asked Blizzard about one region, the one his server runs in, and quietly reported nothing found. No user has ever had a character read out of the Americas in this product, and nobody was ever told that was why. So: all four regions, every game version, and when he cannot reach one he names it. Plus the other places he showed you an empty space and let you assume it was yours: no characters, no main, no reason given.

Fixes10 Sep 2026 · v1.133.0 to v1.134.03 New1 Improved4 Fixed

3 New

  1. He offers the characters he already knows about instead of asking you to type

Apply to a guild, sign up to an open raid, verify yourself, and he used to hand you an empty box while your characters sat in his own records. He lists them now, filtered to the game and region that raid or guild is actually on, with typing still there for anything he has not met. Connecting Battle.net is offered at the same moment, which is the moment it is worth anything, and he says when he last read your account rather than pretending the list is live.

  2. A community server posts raids anyone can join, without being asked twice

Community mode turned off the roster and the verifying, then left every raid members-only, which on a server with no members means nobody. Raids there are open by default now, and signups stop waiting on an approval nobody was set up to give. Both are defaults, so a community can still run something for its regulars only.

  3. A community goes by its Discord name, and can be found

Every public name came off the in-game guild, so a server without one was Guild a4f2 and could not appear anywhere. A community is known by its Discord server name now, kept current when it is renamed, and can list itself beside the guilds with what it actually runs counted rather than claimed. Nothing appears there without an open door and something opened to outsiders in the last three months.

1 Improved

  1. Connecting Battle.net no longer loses your place

It used to take you off to a page of its own, and people never found their way back to the application they were halfway through. A small window opens instead, you sign in with Blizzard, it closes, and you are still on the same page with the same half-typed answers and your characters now listed. If the window is blocked you come straight back to where you were instead. He says up front what he asks Blizzard for, which is your character list and nothing else, and the page that says so is now a way onward rather than a dead end.

4 Fixed

  1. My characters treated every character as if it were one game

Refresh all told one account it had refreshed fourteen characters and quietly failed on twenty-eight, because everything on that page assumed a single game version and read Retail characters as Mists ones. A Demon Hunter was offered a role list with no tank in it, the per-character refresh reported success on a character it had failed to read, and Add an alt offered you characters you already owned. All of it was one wrong assumption.

  2. A raid he saved but never actually posted

Make a raid on the web, get a cheerful yes, go to the channel, find nothing. Discord had refused the post and he had no idea why, so neither did you. One guild built the same Karazhan three times before one stuck. He checks he can see the channel before he saves anything now, and when Discord still says no he tells you which permission is missing instead of nodding.

  3. Him insisting your realm does not exist

Save your realm in settings and he could file it as "moon guard" while Blizzard calls it "moon-guard", then announce that your realm is not on Blizzard's list at all and that your game version must be wrong. It was not. The same typo quietly broke verifying, because every armory lookup went to a realm nobody has. He writes realm names down properly now, and reads the old ones properly too.

  4. A signup page offering a character from the wrong game

Signing up to an open raid on the web listed every character he had on you, from every server and every version of the game, so a Mists character turned up for a Burning Crusade night. It reads the raid it is for now.

Nobody Told Them

Eight servers had dropped Hootus and five of them left carrying something broken he had never mentioned. One had been asking Blizzard for a guild on a realm that does not exist in their game version, for seven days. Two had every role he was told to hand out deleted underneath him. Their own dashboards said the roster was clean. So: he learned nineteen ways a server can be broken, learned to say only the ones that matter and only once, and the page that used to say nothing needs attention now says what does.

Not Everyone Is In Your Guild

A recruiting server had five people verify cleanly, then ten in a row land as guests because the armory had them in other guilds. Nobody was told, and the bot was gone inside two days. Another server never named a WoW guild at all, posted six public Molten Core nights, and took zero signups, because every person who pressed a button got handed a web link. Both of them were using Hootus exactly as intended. He just assumed everyone who walks into a Discord is already one of yours.

2 Improved

  1. The docs page leads with the search box now

It used to open with a hero, a headline about docs, and two start cards before you reached anything you could search. Four separate things asked who you were, and the top button and the first card went to the same page. Search is first, the doors are two, and the page ships less than half the bytes.

  2. Two thirds of the stylesheet was for screens that no longer exist

The setup wizard, the dashboard and the old theme switcher were all rewritten at some point and none of them took their CSS along. That plus a pile of hand-picked font sizes came to 1,769 lines nobody was using. Every size left is a real step on the scale, and the owl on the loading screen starts spinning, which it has never once done.

2 Fixed

  1. Two ways to turn off a DM that was never sent

The post-raid feedback ask is a post in your raid channel. It always has been. But the settings called it a morning-after DM and offered to switch it off, and a snooze button promised beak shut for sixty days. Both saved your answer and neither was ever read. The ask pings a role in a channel, so no per-member opt-out could have worked. Both are gone and the setting says where the post actually lands.

  2. The contents list on a guide finally follows you down

It was told to stick and never did, because a wrapper further up had overflow hidden, which quietly switches sticky off for everything inside it. Guide pages also had lines running to a hundred and nine characters. Both fixed, and the fix to the wrapper means the next sticky thing anyone writes will just work.

Find It Without Reading It

Two thousand lines of guides with no search, no filter, and a hundred and sixteen command rows nailed to the bottom of the page. The phrase first verified member appeared nowhere in any of it, and four of the six guilds that dropped Hootus never reached one. So: a search box that knows softres means soft reserves, a pick-who-you-are filter that cuts the page down to your four guides, the commands moved somewhere sensible, and a straight answer for the member who came out a guest.

Somebody Has To Be First

Fourteen servers added Hootus in three weeks. Nine opened the setup wizard and eight of those finished it. The five who never opened it all got the link, and one of them has taken a hundred and thirty two arrivals since, every one of them met with silence, because he did nothing visible in a server until setup was done. He speaks up now, in the server, where the people who can fix it will see it. Of the seven guilds that removed him, five had never verified a member.

Nothing Pinned On Them

Three people joined a brand new server, verified, and walked away with no roles. Discord drops every new bot at the bottom of the role list, and a bot only hands out roles below its own. Hootus had a check for that, and it never once fired, because it compared role names letter for letter and the role is called ↦ Raider. Fix the ordering and he goes back for everyone he could not dress.

The Part It Could Not Do

Six weeks ago Hootus said, in the changelog and on his own page, that he could not plan a retail raid. That sentence is wrong now. Midnight and The War Within are in: nine raid instances, LFR through Mythic, each at the size it actually runs at, nineteen dungeons on the LFG board, and loot read from Blizzard's own journal. Mythic+ and the Vault are still not here, and that is on the page too.

What He Actually Saw

Somebody put every number Hootus shows you next to the rows behind it. Loot fairness was out by up to eight times and pointing a loot council at the wrong raider. The raiders table rated 102 of 113 people at either 100% or a dash. The feedback ask, a DM sent at two in the morning, had asked sixty-three people and been answered by two. It is a post in the raid channel now, up for two days.

A Fourth Game, And The Part It Cannot Do

Hootus learned retail. Thirteen classes, forty specs, Demon Hunters and Evokers, gear and item level, the roster ticking on its own. He also learned to say the thing nobody wants to say: he cannot plan a retail raid, because there is no retail raid content in him, and no date for when there will be. A retail-only guild gets a roster, verification and member tracking, and that is the whole list.

Nothing You Were Not Told

Hootus had a habit of announcing that something had gone well and then not doing it. He said your Raider role was on when Discord had refused him. He told an officer a member could not see the channels when everything had worked, and skipped their welcome over it. And every TBC character came back without a spec, because he was reading a field that does not exist outside retail.

Who Came In, And Through Which Door

Hootus hands out a different link for members, guests, PUGs and raid sign-ups, and the one you walk in through decides what happens next. He had never once been asked how well that was working. It turns out he was quietly dropping anyone who arrived on a vanity link, and if Discord refused him the invite list he would remember an empty one and guess at the next arrival. Both fixed, and /hootus check will now tell you who came in and which door they used. He also stopped forgetting the role you signed up as the moment somebody benched you.

Say The True Thing

Somebody read every message Hootus sends, all two hundred and thirty of them, and asked two questions of each: is this still true, and does it offer you the thing you obviously need next. It was not, and it did not. Reminders were shipping a link that said [object Promise]. People were told an officer had been pinged when nobody had. The recruitment invite was going to the whole channel. And when he is about to undo something one of your officers decided, he now asks you first instead of just doing it.

One Hootus, Two Windows

Discord and the dashboard had quietly grown into two bots that disagreed. Move a raid on the web and the reminders never fired. Promote someone there and it undid itself within the hour. Sign up through the site and nobody checked your Mage could tank. They now run the same code, so whichever window you use, the answer is the same. Fifteen admin subcommands became twelve and one honest diagnostic: ask /hootus check and he tells you what he thinks and why.

Only The People You Meant

Hootus had been generous with things that were never meant to be shared. The pending list went up in the channel with everyone's name and live approve buttons on it, the PUG invite was a permanent link any member could pull, opening recruitment quietly published your guild to the open web, and on the right server anyone at all could sign in as a dashboard admin. All of that is shut. He also stopped stating a week-old roster as today's fact, and stopped losing your spec every time you changed your main.

Somebody Is Actually Told

Hootus knew perfectly well when something had gone wrong. He just kept telling the wrong person, or nobody. Failures now reach your officers, /verify works for the people it kept turning away, an outage at Blizzard stops reading like your typo, and a reminder is only ticked off once somebody has actually had it. And if you wander off halfway through setting him up, he comes back and asks.

Nothing Of Yours Moves

Hootus had a habit of treating a Discord you had already built as raw material. He would find a channel by name, rename it, drag it into his own category and rewrite who could see it, and setup could quietly null your WoW guild and take everyone's admin roles off on the way past. All of that is gone. He builds in his own corner, tells you what he made and what he reused, and if something goes wrong he says what and to whom.

The Roster Runs Late

Blizzard's guild roster is the last thing to hear that somebody joined, and Hootus had been treating its silence as proof they had not. New members got handed Guest, people accepted by an officer sat in limbo with nobody told, and anyone caught in the gap flipped between member and guest on the hour. He now asks the armory, which knows first, and only takes membership off someone when Blizzard actually says so.
