Hootus posts in a lot of places: raid signups, welcome messages, officer alerts, loot summaries. This guide covers where he posts, how to change it, and how members opt into the pings they care about. If you are still standing the bot up, start with Setting up Hootus first.
Three pages do the work:
- Channels wires each duty to a Discord channel and gives Hootus access.
- Notifications routes each individual notice to the channel you want.
- Notify roles are the self-assign opt-in roles members pick for themselves.
1. Wire duties to channels
Open Settings → Channels. This page checks that Hootus can reach every channel he uses and fixes access for you.
At the top, a health banner tells you the state at a glance: healthy, warnings, or blocked. Work top to bottom.
Server-wide permissions. The first section lists the permissions granted to the Hootus role for the whole server and whether the role sits above your leadership roles. If anything is flagged, Server basics (Bot health) is the full reference for fixing bot permissions and role position.
Channels the bot uses. The second section lists every channel Hootus posts in or manages, grouped by category. Each row shows whether Hootus can post there or use it.
- When a row shows Fix this for me, Hootus can add himself in one click. Use Grant all to clear every self-fixable channel at once.
- When a row shows Show steps, the channel has its own permissions that Hootus cannot manage. Open the details for the exact toggle to flip in Discord, then come back and Re-check.
- If a channel warns that a mapped role cannot see it, use Grant role access so the right members are not locked out.
- If a member has a personal override on a channel, use Remove personal overrides to keep access role-based.
Gather channels. Lower on the same page, the Gather channels field lists the voice channels Hootus sweeps for raiders. When a raid starts, and when you run /raid pull, Hootus moves signed-up raiders sitting in these channels into the raid voice channel. Anyone elsewhere is left alone. Set at least one, or /raid pull and auto-start have nowhere to pull from.
Grant access on the channels Hootus needs, then move on to routing.
2. Route every notification
Open Settings → Notifications. This is one place to decide where each notice lands. Every routable notice has a sensible default channel; this page lets you override any of them.
Set them individually. Each notice has a channel dropdown. Leave it on Default to use the built-in channel, or pick any text or forum channel to send it elsewhere. The dropdown label shows the current target so you can scan the whole list quickly.
Route everything to one channel. The panel at the top drops every notice into a single channel in one move. Handy for a fresh server. Fine-tune the individual rows afterwards.
Reset to defaults. The same panel has Reset to defaults, which clears every override and sends each notice back to its built-in channel.
Turn a notice off. Some notices have an on/off switch next to the dropdown. Flip it off to stop that notice entirely.
Read-only notices. Some notices are delivered as DMs, in a raid thread, or straight to leadership, so they have no channel to pick. They are hidden by default. Flip Show read-only notifications to see them and where each one goes. A badge on each shows the delivery method.
Nothing saves until you press Save. The page warns you if you try to leave with unsaved changes.
3. Set up self-assign ping roles
Open Settings → Notify roles. These are opt-in roles members choose for themselves, so you can @-mention just the people who asked. Each one is a hidden, mentionable Discord role. They are separate from raid pings, which live under Raid automation and groups.
Three ways to add one:
- Suggested tags. One-click setup for the common ones. LFG posts @mention the matching tag, so an LFG: PvP post pings whoever opted into PvP, and LFG (all) catches every kind. This ties into LFG and pickup groups.
- Create a new tag. Give it a label (for example, Mythic+ pings) and an optional description shown to members when they opt in. Hootus creates the hidden, mentionable role for you.
- Adopt an existing role. Pick a role you already have and turn it into an opt-in notify role. The label defaults to the role name.
Remove a tag with its Remove control. That takes it off the opt-in list.
